Blog » THERAPY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
I was recently interviewed on the AM radio show Lunch with Lisa as the People's Bank Hometown Hero. I spoke of the Community Programs that Speech & Language Consultants, LLC has developed as part of the continued call what I believe to be social responsibility in the heart of therapy.
In this show and on other shows, I have spoken about our SLC Volunteers. These volunteers as young as three years old have served as typical peers in our social communication groups. Our middle and highschool students have attended our disabilities 101 course and are learning that people with disabilties and nondisabilities benefit from real relationships...not so much the ones where the peers coddle and hand hold. We try our best to develop positive authenticity!
The SLC Parents Night Out is another program that gives a new spin to what we identify as RESPITE.
Recently, we raised almost $2,000.00 during the Autism Speaks Walk. Many Thanks to our donors as far as Chicago (thanks to the Seals Family and my good friends Wanda, Kaamilyah, Marcy) as well as Connecticut (the Counts Family, Donna, Teresa, SLC Interns, SLC Staff and their Families)!

Why do we do it?
My answer: How can we not!
